Tips For Decorating Your Home To Give It A More Modern Feel

Blog

If you have decided that it is time to redecorate your home interior and you would like to go for a more modern look this time, you will need to start looking for tips on how to pull this off. You can do this on your own or with the help of an interior designer. If you would like to try it on your own, you will want to check out the following tips that will help get you started.

Stick With Bright Walls

The tan or off-white walls are a thing of the past. More and more people are achieving the modern look by painting their walls white. They are even adding white in more places than they used to do, such as with their cabinetry and light fixtures. If you currently have dark walls, you will need to first apply a quality primer to the walls before adding the white paint. This is to help make sure that the walls will not absorb so much of the white paint that you have to do an excessive amount of coats.

Buy Some Cubist Chairs

There are a variety of cubist chairs on the market, such as from Sovini. You will notice that these stand out from other chairs because they have more straight lines and edges, while others will have more curves. If you are not sure about their level of comfort, you can go to the furniture store and try them out for yourself. You could also start small and simply purchase one cubist lounge chair. After all, as a lounge chair, it is bound to be comfortable, a favorite of many people in the house, and still provide that modern look you are going for.

Remember Less Is More

To achieve a more modern look, you will want to cut down on the amount of trinkets and other decorations that you have all over the room. If you have a small collection that you just can't bare to part with or store away, you will want consider condensing it so it will fit in a modern styled glass showcase cabinet that you can have off in the corner of the room.

When all else fails, you could always turn to an interior designer for some help. You could still do the work yourself to save money and just pay for a consultation with the interior designer. You'll be surprised at how much you can learn in a short amount of time.
